AoLE Aims and Objectives

The Mathematics and Numeracy curriculum aims to support pupils in applying mathematical skills in various contexts, fostering a positive mindset towards mathematics.

Key components include five inter-related mathematical proficiencies designed to provide comprehensive mathematical knowledge and skills.

The curriculum supports high expectations for all learners, aiming to build confidence, resilience, and practical application of numeracy skills in real-life situations.

AoLE Age-Appropriate Learning Outcomes

Please use the link below to learn about the expected learning outcomes at Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3:

AoLE Content

This varies greatly depending on the focus topics within each class, and the children’s ideas in EPIC planning sessions.

Each class will complete two ‘rich tasks’ per half term often linked to our topics which enables pupils to apply their skills to real life, authentic contexts.

The school follows the White Rose scheme of work.

AoLE Assessment and Feedback

  • Teacher assessment: Written and verbal feedback, termly progress tracker, listening to learners, book looks.
  • Self and peer assessment: reflection time, blue polishing pen, maths challenge grids.
  • Baseline assessment for Reception pupils.
  • Mandatory National Numeracy Tests/personalised assessments for Y2-Y6 taken in two parts: Procedural and Reasoning.
  • WRAT Assessments.

AoLE Enrichment Activities

There are many opportunities to enrich experiences in this area of learning, including:

  • Celebration of National Numeracy Day
  • Careers day
  • Enterprise fortnight
  • Swansea Successful Futures primary enterprise challenge
  • Trips & visits will be linked to our topics and will cover many cross curricular skills
  • Annual maths parent open evening
