A Wonderfully Busy March at Oystermouth Primary!

March has been an incredibly exciting month at Oystermouth Primary School, filled with celebrations, creativity, community events and opportunities for our pupils to shine. Here’s a roundup of everything that’s been happening across the school this month — and a look ahead to what’s still to come!

Welsh Week & St David’s Day Celebrations

We began the month by celebrating Welsh Week and St David’s Day in true Oystermouth style. Pupils enjoyed:

  • Traditional Twmpath dancing
  • Our annual School Eisteddfod, showcasing pupils’ wonderful music, art, writing and performance talents
  • A deliciously competitive Welsh Cake Competition
  • Coming to school dressed in red or traditional Welsh costume

It was a fantastic celebration of Welsh culture, creativity and community spirit. Da iawn pawb!

Dosbarth Rhossili Complete Cycle Proficiency Training

At the start of the month, Dosbarth Rhossili took part in their cycle proficiency training. Pupils worked hard to develop their cycling skills, road awareness and safe cycling habits. The instructors were full of praise for their positive attitudes, resilience and teamwork.
Da iawn, Dosbarth Rhossili — you should be very proud of your achievements!

World Book Day – 5th March

World Book Day was another highlight, with pupils (and staff!) arriving in school dressed as their favourite book characters. Throughout the day, children took part in a range of exciting activities, including:

  • Bringing in their favourite books from home
  • Entering our “Get Caught Reading” competition, sending in photos of themselves reading in unusual or imaginative places
  • Joining colourful costume parades, with prizes awarded for the most inventive and eye-catching outfits

Thank you to everyone for making it such a magical celebration of reading.

Big Walk & Wheel Fortnight

We’re currently taking part in the Big Walk & Wheel Fortnight, encouraging pupils and families to choose active journeys to school. Walking, wheeling and scooting have been very popular, and it’s been wonderful to see so many children embracing healthy, eco-friendly travel.

Neurodiversity Celebration Week

This week is Neurodiversity Celebration Week, and throughout the school pupils are engaging in activities that celebrate our differences, promote understanding, and recognise the strengths and talents of neurodivergent individuals. We are proud to be an inclusive school where everyone is valued.

Comic Relief – Friday 20th March

Comic Relief is just around the corner, and we’re gearing up to raise as much money as possible for this fantastic cause.

  • Red Noses – £2 (on sale now)
  • Pin Badges – £2.50 (also on sale now)
  • Red Nose Biscuits – 50p each, made by Mrs Morgan and the children, on sale Thursday 19th March
  • On Friday 20th, pupils are invited to wear red or come in fancy dress
  • Donations welcome on the day — all funds raised will go directly to Comic Relief

Thank you in advance for your support.

Looking Ahead to Next Week – Final Week of Term

Next week is the final week of the spring term, ending on Friday 27th March. We have a few more exciting events still to come:

Safer Routes to School Week

We’ll be continuing to promote safe, active travel.
Our monthly Walk to School will take place on Friday 27th March, leaving Underhill Car Park at 8:25am. Families are warmly encouraged to join us.

PTA Quiz Night – Wednesday 25th March

Our PTA Quiz Night takes place on Wednesday 25th March.
Please see the PTA flyer for full details — it’s always a fun evening and a great fundraiser for the school.

Parent–Teacher Consultations

Consultations are happening this week and next.
If you haven’t yet booked an appointment with your child’s teacher, please do so as soon as possible.

Thank You!

A huge thank you to our pupils, families and staff for making March such a vibrant, busy and joyful month. We look forward to a fantastic final week before the Easter break!
