Dosbarth Langland – Year 1

Role:

Class Teacher, Deputy Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team, Welsh Language Lead, Assessment Lead, Criw Cymraeg Pupil Voice Lead

Professional Background

Oystermouth is my sixth different school. This next year will be my 29th year of teaching. In my teaching career I have taught all year groups across the school and coordinated most subject areas. I have been through several successful inspections in both England and Wales and led the school as Acting Headteacher. I have been Deputy Headteacher for 15 years.

Philosophy of Education

Throughout my career my core philosophy has remained the same, that the child is central to the teaching and learning experience. It must always be fun, interesting, engaging, challenging, nurturing and meaningful. Containing opportunities for creativity and being cross-cultural. Children only get one chance at their primary education, so it needs to be a truly wonderful experience. It is the foundation for their lifelong love of learning. It shapes them emotionally, socially and morally. Education needs to be inclusive, supporting every child so they feel safe and happy; everyone is different but equal, all children have their own additional needs, and their voice must be heard so they can reach their full potential. Working together with high aspirations and expectations with behaviour and learning I believe we can do amazing things.

Favourite Teaching Moment

I think it is when I meet children who have grown up and I have taught in the past. They say I made a difference to them and that is all I really want to do.

Interests and Hobbies

I have lots of different pets which I look after and take up some of my spare time. I have a dog, two cats and four chickens as well as five axolotls. I am a member of a number of choirs and theatre groups, I love performing and being on the stage.
