On Tuesday 7th October, a team of Dosbarth Oxwich and Dosbarth Rhossili pupils from Oystermouth Primary School took part in the Urdd Open Football Tournament held at Swansea Bay Sports Park. The mixed year 5 & year 6 team gave an outstanding performance that filled the school with pride.
In the absence of Mrs Harris, we were very fortunate to have Rhys Daniels – dad of Max in Year 5 – step in to coach the team, with Mr Finn also attending to support the pupils on the day.
Despite narrowly missing out on qualification by just one point, the team remained unbeaten across all six of their matches, with an impressive record:
- Played: 6
- Won: 4
- Drawn: 2
- Lost: 0
- Goals Scored: 14
- Goals Conceded: 2
Coach Rhys Daniels commented:
“The kids were superb today and missed out on qualifying by a really fine margin. I’ve coached for several years now and have had teams win tournaments without playing half as well as this group. They were really unlucky.
They all listened, behaved and worked together incredibly well and were a credit to the school. They’re understandably disappointed, but in time they’ll realise how well they did.”
We would also like to extend a big thank you to the parents who supported on the day and kindly helped with transport – your help made the day possible and is very much appreciated.
Congratulations to the team on such a fantastic effort and for representing Oystermouth Primary with determination, skill and great sportsmanship. We’re proud of each and every one of you!
