Where has the year gone? It’s hard to believe we’ve reached the end of another school year – it really has flown by!
As we come to the end of another fantastic year at Oystermouth Primary School, I want to take a moment to say a heartfelt thank you to every member of our wonderful school community.
To our incredible children – thank you for your enthusiasm, kindness and hard work. You amaze me every single day and continue to make me incredibly proud. To our dedicated staff – thank you for your commitment, care and determination to give every child the very best opportunities.
A huge thank you also goes to our fantastic PTA. Your enthusiasm and tireless fundraising make such a difference to our school. We are incredibly grateful for everything you do. To our parents, grandparents and Governors, thank you for your continued encouragement and support.
This newsletter is packed with highlights from another busy and memorable Summer Term. Our children have excelled in so many different ways, and it has been wonderful to celebrate their successes both in and out of the classroom.
One of the greatest privileges of being Headteacher is reading every child’s end-of-year report. Each one tells the story of a year of growth and achievement, and every report has filled me with pride. Every child at Oystermouth is unique, and each one brings something special to our school family. Congratulations to every pupil on everything you have achieved this year – you should all be incredibly proud of yourselves.
To our wonderful Year 6 pupils – it has been an absolute privilege to watch you grow into such kind, confident and capable young people. I will miss every one of you, but I know you are ready for the next chapter and I can’t wait to hear about all the amazing things you will achieve in the future.
Finally, thank you all again! Your support, kindness and commitment to the school means the world to me. I absolutely love being Headteacher of Oystermouth Primary and can’t wait to see what the next school year brings.

How do we look after our world?
We had a visitor in school, Litterbug Doug and he left an awful mess in our yard! We collected all the rubbish and sorted it out in class. We put the plastic in the pink bag and paper in the green bag.
We looked at how plants help the world and how they grow. We put some bean and pea seeds in a bag, watered them and watched them grow.

What’s it like beside the seaside?
We met Pirate Shelly. She had forgotten what people do at the beach, so we all drew her a picture to show her what we do there.
We visited the lifeboat station in Mumbles and we watched as they launched one of the boats. We tried Jiu Jitsu during Food and Fitness week. We all enjoyed our sports day in Underhill Park.
We then went to the beach to have our lunch and build sandcastles.
This half term kicked off with all of our planning and prep for our school summer fayre! We had lots of fun during our Enterprise fortnight. We headed down to the beach to collect some natural pieces for our seaside art and also baked delicious cupcakes to sell. We created banners and price lists for our stall and learnt about all of the hard work that goes into creating a business.
We have also been very busy practising for our concert, which I am sure you’ll agree that the children were absolutely fantastic! We have some born performers in our class!
During food and fitness week we took part in lots of fitness activities including a session from Welsh athletics and Victory jiu jitsu.
We have learnt lots of about the seaside and how to care for our local beaches. We have also been learning about keeping safe at the seaside.
This year has been an absolute blast. We have created so many amazing memories, made lovely new friendships welcoming new children to our school and I know the children are looking forward to next year’s challenges.

We started off by winning walk to school.
We looked at measuring distances and different objects.
We have been learning outside and exercising.
Every week we have been on our Woodland walks.
Enterprise
This term, the children have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Young Dragons Enterprise Project. They worked collaboratively to design, create and market their own products, developing valuable skills in creativity, teamwork and problem-solving. The children conducted market research, designed logos and advertisements, calculated costs and selling prices, and produced a range of products including tote bags, candles and dream catchers. The project culminated in a successful Market Day, where the children confidently promoted and sold their products. It was wonderful to see them apply their literacy, numeracy and communication skills in a real-life context.
How Can We Look After Our World?
Through our sustainability topic, the children explored the importance of caring for our environment and the role we can all play in protecting our planet. They learned about endangered animals, habitats and the impact of human actions on the natural world. The children investigated ocean plastics, discussed ways to reduce waste, and considered how natural resources should be used responsibly. Through outdoor learning, science investigations and creative projects, they developed a greater understanding of how small actions can make a positive difference to the environment.
What’s It Like Beside the Seaside?
Our seaside topic provided many exciting opportunities for learning about coastal environments and our local area. Inspired by The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch, the children explored seaside life through stories, and character descriptions. They investigated the features of the seaside, considered water and beach safety, and developed their geographical understanding of weather and climate. We also enjoyed a visit to Langland where we enjoyed exploring the rockpools.
We’ve had another busy and exciting term! During the first half of the term, our theme was “How Do We Look After Our World?” Through a range of engaging activities, we explored endangered animals, climate change and deforestation, learning about the importance of protecting our planet and the ways we can all make a positive difference.
WAGAMAMA’S We had an amazing trip to Wagamama’s, where we enjoyed tasting a variety of delicious foods and even had the opportunity to create our own healthy smoothies. It was a fantastic hands-on experience, and everyone had lots of fun trying new flavours and learning about healthy eating!
FOOD AND FITNESS WEEK
During Food and Fitness Week, we enjoyed visits from the school nurse and Joel’s mum, as well as an exciting visit to Victory Jiu Jitsu. We also had great fun taking part in athletics activities and our exciting Sports Day, learning the importance of keeping active and healthy.
SUMMER CONCERT – WONDERFUL WORLD
The children performed and sang brilliantly in our Summer Concert, Wonderful World. Their enthusiasm, confidence and hard work shone through in every performance. A particular highlight was their fantastic rendition of “In the Jungle”, which became a firm favourite!
HAVE AN AMAZING SUMMER HOLIDAY!
This term has been extremely busy!
It has been filled with sports, music, dancing, visitors in school and visits out of school, and lots of learning.
We worked hard on our enterprise stall products which sold really well. As part of this topic we enjoyed a fantastic online workshop ‘What is Money?’ and made our own money themed badges.
We continued to enjoy visits to Norton Lodge – this was such a worthwhile experience for many of the children and very much enjoyed by the people who attend the day centre there. They loved interacting with the children and hearing them sing.
Lots of the class participated in tennis and athletics festivals and tournaments and represented the school really well. ‘Food and Fitness Week’ was a highlight, with lots of activities and a very soggy fun run!
We had a great day out at ‘Cynefin at the Castle’, experiencing workshops on Medieval Mumbles, listened to live music, sampled hog roast, dressed as warriors and had a tour of the castle.
Our Drama Knights children had a blast putting on their show, and the class came together in a fantastic performance of ‘Wonderful World’. We were also chosen to perform in the Grange’s ‘Welsh X-Factor’ and did a brilliant job singing ‘Migldi Magldi’.
The class have been absolutely wonderful. Best wishes for a lovely summer.
This term has been a busy one! It has included an amazing Olympic day with the Bishop Gore cluster schools, in which 8 children made it to the 60m finals and a handful even won! We have also been lucky enough to have Bishop Gore drama teachers visit the school to share and prepare our children for the amazing ‘We will Rock you’ performance that we got to see. Around this time the children were also working hard practicing for our very own school concert, in which they did incredibly well!
The children also worked so very hard creating and making brilliant products to sell at our summer enterprise. The class raised lots of money with which we will be adopting an endangered animal.
Finally, the most exciting part of the term was our residential in Llain. The class had the best time and really showed how well they can behave and how much they can get stuck in. They really did the school and Mr Greenwood proud and most of all had a great time!
As part of our Summer Fayre, Dosbarth Rhossili worked in small groups to develop their own enterprise ideas. The children came up with a range of fantastic stall concepts, including some traditional summer fayre games. They were responsible for designing, setting up and running their stalls, showing excellent teamwork, creativity and problem-solving skills throughout. Their enterprise project was a huge success, and they raised a fantastic amount of money, which will help fund some special end-of-term treats for the class. Well done, Dosbarth Rhossili.
Dosbarth Rhossili enjoyed an exciting visit to the Waterfront Museum to take part in the Crucial Crew workshops. Throughout the day, we learned about a range of important safety topics, including road safety, water safety, staying safe near railway tracks, and what to do to escape safely in the event of a fire. We also spoke with the police about making responsible choices, keeping ourselves safe, and recognising suspicious behaviour. The workshops were both fun and informative, and we learned lots of valuable lessons. It was a fantastic experience and especially useful as our independence continues to grow.
Dosbarth Rhossili had a fantastic three days at Llain Activity Centre, packed with exciting adventures and new challenges. We took part in a wide range of activities, including team-building games, forestry, archery, high ropes, and a muddy obstacle run. Our favourite activity was definitely kayaking, where we had lots of fun on the water while developing our confidence and teamwork skills. From the moment we arrived, the trip was filled with laughter, friendship and unforgettable experiences. We made memories that we will cherish for years to come and returned home with lots of stories to share.
We’re pleased to continue offering a wide and growing range of extracurricular activities at Oystermouth Primary School. Over time, our provision has developed to include a great mix of opportunities for pupils to enjoy beyond the classroom.
From sports and music to maths and chess, these clubs give children the chance to try new things, build confidence, and spend time with friends. Most of our clubs are run by our own staff and are free of charge, which is fantastic for supporting all pupils to get involved.
Many of the current clubs are aimed at our older pupils, reflecting the level of independence and commitment some activities require. We continue to look for opportunities to expand provision across all year groups.
All school-run clubs will resume in September, starting week commencing 7th September 2026.

We hope as many children as possible take advantage of the opportunities available and enjoy getting involved.
It has been a fantastic term for football at Oystermouth Primary.
Our girls’ team enjoyed an outstanding Gower Cup campaign, winning every match and lifting the trophy. The girls played excellent football and demonstrated brilliant teamwork, determination and support for one another throughout the tournament.
The boys also performed superbly, with two teams representing the school from Dosbarth Rhossili and Dosbarth Oxwich. One of the teams progressed all the way to the Gower Cup final, completing a very successful tournament for Oystermouth.
Congratulations to all the pupils who represented the school with such pride and enthusiasm.
As I hand over the football reins to Mr Greenwood, I would like to thank all the pupils and parents who have supported school football during my many years of coaching. It has been a real privilege to coach so many children and share in their enjoyment, progress and achievements.

Our Gower Beaches Chess Club has had another fantastic term and continues to be extremely popular with the children.
It has been wonderful to see their chess skills, confidence and strategic thinking develop week by week. The children have shown great enthusiasm, concentration and sportsmanship, and many are becoming very accomplished players.
We are very proud of everything they have achieved and look forward to seeing the club continue to grow next term.

Recently, the Year 4 Netball girls played in a netball match against Cryws Primary School here at Oystermouth. The weather was very kind to us with the rain staying off until after the match was played. The girls played extremely well throughout the match and managed to beat Cryws by 11 goals to 9 goals. Cryws had a slow start to the match but by the last quarter lots of goals were scored and they managed to score another 4 quick goals!
The team members were: Annabel, Hetty, Sophia, Chiara, Rasya, Daisy, Cecily, Nell and Layla. Henry also contributed to our successful win – so thank you Henry for giving up your time to play.

A few weeks ago, Oystermouth Drama Knights performed “Captain Starling and the Cosmic Crew”, and the show was a great success.
The children performed with confidence, enthusiasm and energy, and their hard work throughout the rehearsals was clear to see. The performance was thoroughly enjoyed by the children and families who attended.
Drama Knights continues to be a fantastic opportunity for pupils to develop confidence, creativity and teamwork while having lots of fun.
A huge thank you to Tobias and Marc Kent for writing the script and song, and for their continued enthusiasm and dedication in leading Drama Knights each Friday.

Music continues to thrive at Oystermouth Primary School, with pupils taking part in both our Wednesday after-school Recorder Club and our Friday orchestra sessions.
The orchestra brings together strings, recorders and percussion, giving pupils the opportunity to develop their skills, build confidence and enjoy making music as a group.
The Musical Concert on Friday 10th July was a fantastic celebration of their hard work. It was wonderful to see so many talented young musicians performing with such enthusiasm and confidence.

This term saw more training and hard work from the rugby team. This led up to competing in The Gower Cup, which was held down South Gower RFC. As always, the boys put in so much effort and showed great skills and progress from previous tournaments and trainings. Sadly, this wasn’t our tournament to win but it was another great learning experience and great fun!
Mr Greenwood
Sadly, this year due to other events we were not able to compete in any cricketing competitions. However, this did not stop the great number of children training each week and having great fun practicing and learning. The progress the children have made in such a short time is amazing and I look forward to showing that in a tournament next year.

Congratulations to our Three Cliffs girls’ tennis teams and Oxwich boys’ tennis teams, who once again, managed to win the Jim Lightbody Swansea Schools Tennis Tournament for the second year running.
The Oxwich boys who took part were: Elliott, Dylan R, Theo, Joe, Edward, Dylan O, Jake, Noah, Max, Rudy, Adam and Owen.
The girls and boys from Three Cliffs who took part were: Annabel, Hetty, Sophia, Chiara, Rasya, Daisy, Clara, Cecily (Reserve: Nell) Owen, Arthur, Matthew, (Reserve: Jacob R.)
All players were a credit to Oystermouth Primary School and we are proud of each and every one of them.

We are delighted to have received a £500 Community Chest Grant from Admiral.
A huge thank you to everyone at Admiral for their generous support of Oystermouth Primary School. We are especially grateful to Alex Grills, Jack’s dad in Year 1, for nominating our school and helping to make this award possible.
The grant has enabled us to purchase a range of new sports equipment that will enhance our PE lessons and sporting activities, giving our pupils even more opportunities to develop their skills, stay active and enjoy being physically active.

Oystermouth Primary School has a long-standing and valued partnership with Mumbles Rotary Club. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Colin Griffiths and his wife, Jean, volunteered in school, listening to children read. Following Colin’s passing, Mumbles Rotary Club established the Colin Griffiths Photography Award in his memory, celebrating his passion for photography.
This year’s theme is “Mindful Moments.”
Mindfulness is about slowing down, living in the present and noticing the world around us. We invite children and staff to capture a photograph of something that brings a sense of calm, happiness or wellbeing. It could be a peaceful walk in nature, a beautiful sunrise, a favourite place, an animal, or a simple everyday moment that helps you pause and appreciate the present.
If your child would like to enter the competition, please send their photograph into school with their name and class clearly written on the back, or email it to oystermouthprimaryschool@oystermouth.swansea.sch.uk, by Monday 28th September.
Entries will be judged by members of Mumbles Rotary Club, and prizes will be awarded in the following categories:

We have been incredibly fortunate to receive a generous donation of fresh fruit and vegetables from Tesco, giving our children another opportunity to enjoy a healthy and delicious snack during the school day. The children loved sampling a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, helping to promote healthy eating in a fun and enjoyable way.
We would like to say a very special thank you to Stacëy Graham, Store Manager at Tesco Newton Road, for her help. It is wonderful to have such fantastic support from our local community.

Children in Dosbarth Three Cliffs have visited Norton Lodge Day Centre this year.
Spending time with the residents offers numerous benefits for the children. Intergenerational interactions are incredibly valuable and enrich the lives of both the young and elderly involved.
The kindness and empathy the children showed the dementia patients at Norton Lodge Day Centre has made me very proud!

The PTA’s latest update celebrates a successful summer term, including the Summer Fayre and Colour Run, and introduces the committee for 2026/27. It also outlines how funds raised are being used to improve pupil support spaces, playground facilities and reading resources, alongside plans for next year’s events and fundraising.

All Breakfast Club sessions must be booked and paid for through School Gateway.
Arrival reminder:
The school gates are open and staffed from 8:00–8:10am for Breakfast Club. Please do not arrive after 8:10am.
Our After School Club runs daily from 3:20pm–5:30pm (Fridays to 4:30pm) and is open to all pupils from Nursery to Year 6.
All places must be booked on School Gateway (under Clubs) by 11:00pm the night before.
We have a permanent Foodbank Collection Box by the door in the Art Room.
At the moment the Foodbank especially needs: long life fruit juice or squash, UHT or powdered milk, rice, tinned or powdered potatoes, tinned peas, sweetcorn or carrots, custard rice pudding, toothbrushes child or adult, shower gel and shampoo.
All donations gratefully received.
If your family has recently moved house – or is planning to move – please remember to inform the school office as soon as possible so we can update your child’s records. Keeping address details accurate is especially important for pupils in Year 6, as it may affect applications to comprehensive schools.
The Local Authority requires proof of residency before we can amend any address. Please email a scan or clear photo of a utility bill, finance document, or similar proof to the school office.

The school has been running ‘Walk to School’ days for the last nineteen years. They have always been enjoyable and well attended even in wet and cold conditions! As a school, we encourage all children to walk to school as it is better for the environment, saves money and it is healthy.
The ‘Walk to School’ days are a social event when the children, parents and helpers have the opportunity to chat to each other as they walk to school. It is a fun, whole school event that develops your children’s independence, road safety and social skills.
The class with the highest percentage of children walking to school from Underhill will have additional play, supervised by myself.
Please watch out for the ‘Walk to School’ dates for the next academic year.
